As the dust settles on the World Cup in Russia, readers have been sharing their verdicts on their teams’ performances I could not be prouder of my team. To see France do so well and bring such happiness to the country has been an incredible experience. Raphaël Varane stood out for me at the back. Didier Deschamps crafted a team and a spirit, much like Aimé Jacquet in 1998, that catapulted France to glory Mes amis, it was a long night. World champions, a second star on the jersey and, naturellement, the celebrations were long and loud and joyful. I found myself in the changing room with the players after the game and the air was thick with laughter and song and then a certain dizziness, too, as the result began to sink in. Any semblance of togetherness had evaporated – not for the first time. France have long been blessed with talent but rarely harmony, as shown by the debacle in South Africa in 2010. Didier Deschamps recognised this when he came into the job in 2012 and, throughout his six years in charge, he has placed the importance of squad harmony above nearly everything else. Anyone who threatens that unity is cast out immediately. France have won the World Cup because of their talent but also because Deschamps’ devotion to spirit has allowed their talent to flourish. France team celebrate World Cup win with Paris victory parade

Open-top bus travels down Champs-Élysées as hundreds of thousands cheer squad on France’s young, World Cup-winning football team have staged a victorious home-coming parade in an open-top bus down the Champs Élysées as hundreds of thousands of supporters wrapped in flags cheered them on. The 4-2 win over Croatia in Moscow on Sunday has cemented France’s reemergence as a football superpower and brought the country together. The squad were driven down the packed avenue in Paris, smiling and waving and holding up the cup as the French air force staged a flypast amid plumes of red, white and blue.
